"When a fall arrest system is used, it is essential to ensure that there is adequate free space to fall in to (should a fall occur) before the user hits the ground or any other substantial objects in the fall path, for example, a part of the building. The free space requirement should be calculated by adding together the parameters given for the relevant type of fall arrest system.


As an example: to calculate the free space required when using a 2m fall arrest lanyard in fall factor 2 situation complete the following.
